Big Sur Marathon has become one of the biggest events in Monterey Bay with over 4,500 participants each year. Held annually along the Pacific Coast, the marathon was first established in 1986. And you can save your energy for the race… reserve a marathon shuttle service with Monterey Airbus!
The Big Sur International Marathon is held in April and starts south of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and ends at Crossroads Shopping Center in Carmel, CA. In addition to the marathon, the event also includes a 21-mile (34 km) race, a relay race, a 5 km run and power walks. There’s also the Big Sur Half Marathon in November.
Participants in Big Sur must ride a shuttle to the Marathon start. These shuttles run a loop along Highway 1. If you’re from out of town, you can also reserve a Monterey Airbus service from San Jose and San Francisco Airport. We provide shuttle services to over 75,000 passengers a year with pickup times almost every hour.
Also, please, keep in mind that 12K and 5K are out-and-back courses from the finish area in Carmel. Entrants in the 12K and 5K are responsible for their own transportation to the start of their event at the Marathon finish. Parking is available at the Crossroads Carmel shopping center and at the Barnyard Shopping Village one block north of Rio Road. And you can avoid driving entirely on race day with a Monterey Airbus.
